Drawing session No. 1

I joined Theatre design students in drawing class so I can continue practising my drawing skills.

During these two hours we explored 12 Jungian Archetypes - Ruler, Creator/Artist, Sage, Innocent, Explorer, Rebel, Hero, Wizard, Jester, Everyman, Lover, Caregiver. We were invited to tap into stereotypes, but as I didn't feel comfortable doing that it helped me explore roles and characters outside of 'expected'.

We needed to use facial expression, pose to show these types. I choose Ruler and Creator. If we think about stereotypes Ruler would probably be an old, wise man with broad shoulders, strong hands, etc. To counterattack this stereotype I designed female ruler. As for creator my first thoughts were of someone as Leonardo Da Vinci, man - again. Man who creates and designs tools, vehicles and other technical items. But creator can also be an artist who's filled with creativity and who's clothes are always in paint.

We continued by adding clashing adjective to the archetype. There I created Serene Ruler who is having her moment of piece from everyday tasks, Soft Explorer who cherishes all living life, Young Caregiver who takes care of their cute rats and Dangerous Jester who was inspired from those cruel pranks in 2016.

For the next task we were paired up and asked to draw each other's portraits. I used Sharpie marker and it allowed me to create quick and quite precise images of River. It was lots of fun to draw the other person as well as be drawn by them!

After we familiarized ourselves with each others characteristics and facial details, we were tasked by creating a caricature - exaggerating and playing around with proportions and sizes.
